Envirothon
competitions are intended to bring students from diverse locations
and backgrounds together in a fun and challenging atmosphere in
which the problem solving, teamwork, and environmental skills
built through participation in Envirothon are put to the test!
Provincial
Competition:
April 17th and 18th 2010
Each spring, Envirothon BC holds it's
provincial competition. Over the course of two days, students
get a chance to put their knowledge and skills to the test by
completing field work and oral presentations while competing against
other secondary school students. The winners of Envirothon
BC's provincial competition are eligible to represent BC in the
Canon Envirothon North American competition.
Day 1:
Field Day in Richmond Nature Park Saturday April 17th
Students visit a local ecosystem
and are given an introduction to the area by a local resource
professional. Students then conduct a collection of field
data and answer area specific problem-solving type questions.
Day 2:
Oral Presentations at A.R. MacNeill Secondary
Students are asked to draw upon
data gathered in the field in day one, a resource package, and
their own skills and expertise in order to develop and present
a project outline. Each student group creates and presents an
original, 20 minute, oral presentation on a specific question
posed about an area of possible management for the field site.
